Whether it´s dryness, sensitivity, oiliness, discoloration or wrinkles, everyone has had to deal with one skin issue or the other at some point. If you are willing to give your face the right treatment and a little love - most of these issues are easy to deal with. Check out some very helpful instructions on how to properly care for your face and achieve a fresh skin.

1) Skincare Routine

The first step to a flawless look is to figure out a skin care routine that works specifically for you. Everybody´s skin is unique. Analyze your skin in depth and decide whether it´s normal, sensitive, dry, combination, blemish-prone or oily.

Make also sure to check the above table on the previous page to have a basic understanding on how your personal ethical background relates to your skin type. Here are the most common skin types and their characteristics:
Skin Type Characteristics
  • Normal: not oily, small pores, skin tone looks even, rare breakouts
  • Sensitive: dries out, itchy, irritated, weather, lifestyle, depends on products
  • Dry: feels tight, flakiness when exposed to dry air or cold weather
  • Combination: dry (edges) and oily (t-zone)
  • Blemish-Prone: breakouts, prone to - blackheads, pimples, oil
  • Oily: shiny-looking

2) Wash Your Face MAX 2x Per Day

Reasons: cleans away dirt, oil, bacteria, traces of makeup

Important: Overwashing is very bad. It dries out your skin. Use a cleanser suited for your skin type. Choose simple products with less chemicals. Use warm water and circular motions to work cleanser into your face. Then rinse your face with cold water (to close the pores), making sure that you get the product completely off. Use a clean towel to gently pat your face dry (rubbing is too rough on your skin).

3) Benefits of Using Toner

A toner helps to remove dirt, makeup and dead cells. It restores skin´s PH balance. Leaves your skin damp and this way absorb any product way better when applied afterwards.

How to use: Use a clean cotton pad and gently swipe over face/neck. No need to wipe off.

4) Using and Applying Moisturizer

Using a moisturizer is a very important step in every skin care routine. What kind of skin type you have doesn´t matter when it comes to using moisturizer. The moisturizer holds water in outermost layer of your skin and helps to improve your skin tone. Use the table below to find out which moisturizer to use for your skin type:

Skin TypeRecommended Moisturizer
Normalwater-based, should feel lightweight and non-greasy
DryDeep hydrating ingredients such as Seed Oil or Argan Oil.
Oily and Blemish ProneVery light, water-based formulas. Search for products that are labeled "non- comedogenic" (won´t clog pores).
SensitiveSimple moisturizer. Non colored or scented.
Stay away from products containing acids. look for Aloe Vera, chamomile, cucumber

AgingRich oil based moisturizer. Look for ingredients like antioxidants.

5) Exfoliate on a Regular Basis (once a week)

Why is it important to exfoliate on a regular basis? Exfoliate sloughs off dead skin cells and leaves your skin fresh, smooth and glowing.

Important: Don´t scrub your skin! Choose an exfoliating product with small beads, not large granules. Alternatively use a clean, damp washcloth to gently rub your face - this works as well as any product and is pretty cost effective!

6) Remove your makeup every single day

Why you should remove makeup every day? Your skin will thank you for it! Makeup that is left on your face overnight clogs pores. Your skin gets no chance to repair itself. Blackheads, breakouts, free radicals remain on the skin which leads to wrinkles.

Full cleanse is always preferable but in case of emergencies you should keep a pack of cleansing wipes beside your bed, along with some eye makeup remover pads. Then you just need to give your face a quick wipe to remove the bulk of the makeup before your head hits the pillow.

Makeup can be haven for bacteria. Throw away any products every six months. Using lumpy foundation and gunky mascara can lead to clogged pores and breakouts.

7) Always use Sunscreen

Importance of sunscreen is often understated which shouldn´t be this way. Things to know about sunscreen… Sunscreen reduces the risk of cancer. It Protects from UVA/UVB rays which contribute to skin issues. Sunscreen protects against and slows down the effects of aging. Preserve your youthful appearance.

Many moisturizers and foundations come with an SPF already included which is great for your daily routine. Important: Wear sunscreen not just in the summer but also in the winter. Never use old expired sunscreen.

Lifestyle Changes

Now that you have some insight into a simple but very effective skincare routine and how important it is to understand the impact of your ethical background on your skin type… it´s time to talk about general lifestyle and bad habits to avoid.
1) Healthy Nutrition
A healthy skin requires a healthy diet enriched with vitamins and minerals. Your skin needs vitamins B, C, E, A, and K. They all help to keep your skin fresh and glowing.
2) Stay Hydrated
You should drink lots of water daily. Green tea or coconut water can be great substitutes. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables with high water content such as tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, watermelons, etc.
3) Get Enough Sleep (7-8 hours a night)
Your skin renews itself while you sleep. You won´t get a fresh-looking skin without enough sleep. Don´t drink or smoke before bed. Change your pillowcase once a week to avoid the dirt, build-up of oil and bacteria.
4) Exercise Often - Stay in Shape
Don´t leave sweat after a workout on your face. Exercises regulate the flow of oxygen to the skin and help to keep a fresh and healthy glow.
5) Avoid Stress
Stress can lead to breakouts, wrinkles, redness or sensitivity. Enjoy yourself go for a walk, visit friends or watch a movie.
6) Don't Smoke
Smoking is very bad for your skin. It furthers early signs of aging. Cigarettes limit the oxygen that gets to the skin and reduces blood flow. The skin starts to look grey and dry. Giving up smoking is not easy but with the right support from friends and family it is possible.
